Car Agency Concession Contracts Approved

The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners has approved several car rental concession contracts that are expected to generate an additional $4 million for Los Angeles International Airport in 1998, airport officials said.

The board awarded nine car rental companies that operate businesses on and off airport property with contracts to serve travelers at LAX for the next five years. Over the last two years, six car rental agencies have had service agreements with LAX. The contracts generated $36 million for the airport in 1996.

The board renewed its agreement with the six car rental agencies--Hertz Corp., Avis Rent-a-Car, Alamo Rent-a-Car, National Car Rental System, Dollar Rent-a-Car Systems and Budget Rent-a-Car--and awarded new contracts to Enterprise Rent-A-Car Co., Thrifty Car Rental and Payless Car Rental.

“The new venture will further enhance the airport’s public service objective,” said John Driscoll, executive director of Los Angeles World Airports.
