Human-to-Human Transmission of ‘Bird Flu’ Not Yet Seen

The World Health Organization said Wednesday there was still no sign of human-to-human transmission of the “bird flu” virus that has killed two children and a 54-year-old man in Hong Kong, but added that more cases were bound to surface because of increased surveillance.
The influenza strain H5N1, previously confined to chickens and other birds, has caused alarm that it may presage a repeat of a 1968 “Hong Kong flu” that killed 46,500 people worldwide. Six people have contracted the virus in Hong Kong.
