There are plenty of places in L.A. to saddle up. Here’s a sampling:
* The Farm, 8101 Tampa Ave., Reseda. Offers horseback and pony rides for all ages on a private ranch. Pony rides $3 each; horseback rides $10 for a half-hour. Open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call (818) 341-6805.
* Griffith Park Circle K Riding Stable, 914 S. Mariposa St., Burbank. Guide-led horseback rides for ages 5 and up in Griffith Park. $14 per person for the first hour; $11 for each additional hour. Reservations required for groups of 12 or more. Call (818) 843-9890.
* Hansen Dam Equestrian Center, 11127 Orcas Ave., Lake View Terrace. Private western and English-style riding lessons starting at $50. Call (818) 899-1625.
* Mill Creek Equestrian Center, 1881 Old Topanga Canyon Road, Topanga Canyon. Lessons in English-style riding. Children 6 and up start with a private lesson ($30-$45), then join an appropriate group lesson. There are also all-day Friday camps ($45). Call (310) 455-1116.
* San Pasqual, 221 San Pasqual Ave., South Pasadena. Beginning to advanced private and group lessons for ages 6 and up. Beginning half-hour lessons are $25, or $175 for eight lessons. Advanced hourlong lessons are $35, or $245 for eight lessons. Call (213) 258-3999.
* Sunset Ranch Hollywood Stables, 3400 N. Beachwood Drive, Los Angeles. Public horse rental for ages 7 and up at $15 an hour plus a $10 deposit. Moonlight rides across the hills in Griffith Park to Burbank on Friday evenings $40 per person plus the price of dinner at a Mexican restaurant (children must be 12 or older). Private dinner rides and guide-led daytime rides also available. Call (213) 464-9612.
* Traditional Equitation School, Los Angeles Equestrian Center, 480 Riverside Drive, Burbank. Offers private, semi-private and group lessons for ages 6 and up in western, English, dressage and hunt seat and line-lead classes for younger children. Horsemanship classes in grooming, safety and tack, and preshow clinics. Weeklong summer day camp for children ages 7-12, all levels, Mondays-Fridays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., through Sept. 5. Campers ride two times a day, do horse-related arts and crafts and compete in a horse show. $250 per week. Call (818) 569-3666.
