Last-Minute Conversion Caps Woodbridge Rally

NEWPORT BEACH — Jeff Hammond caught a two-point conversion pass from Scott Barlow with 53 seconds remaining, giving Woodbridge a 22-21 victory over Corona del Mar in a Sea View League game Thursday at Newport Harbor High.
The Warriors (6-0-2, 2-0-1) trailed, 14-0, at the half, but cut the lead on Barlow’s 24-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Valanos in the third quarter. Barlow then scored on a one-yard run later in the quarter, tying the score, 14-14.
Ryan Cooper’s 24-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Michael Bergey put Corona del Mar (2-6, 0-3) up by seven in the fourth quarter.
Woodbridge pulled within one on Barlow’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Runk with a minute remaining.
