Police and city officials Friday will celebrate the opening of a new substation in Westminster Center that is part of a program touted as the first of its kind in the nation.
Under the Police/Business Empowered Partnership program, the city is allowing businesses to buy police officer overtime. The effort is expected to increase security and reduce shoppers’ fears of crime at the center, located at Westminster Boulevard and Goldenwest Street.
Managers of the shopping mall are paying $38,000 for the first 1,200 hours of overtime for the officers, who will remain available for emergency calls outside the center.
The grand opening celebration will be at 2 p.m. at the substation, 6735 Westminster Blvd., Suite A.
