The Angels want to keep pitcher Ken Hill, but it won’t be as simple as merely picking up the option on his $4.6-million contract.

Under Hill’s contract, the team has 15 days from the end of the World Series to exercise the one-year option. Hill then has 72 hours to accept or decline. There is a $400,000 buyout.

Hill said he won’t stay without an extension.

“I need two or three years,” Hill said.

Hill is 4-4 with a 3.65 earned-run average since being acquired from Texas. He is 3-2 with a 1.90 ERA in his last seven starts.

All of the Angel coaches have been asked back for next season, Manager Terry Collins said. Of course, that doesn’t mean all will return. Third base coach Larry Bowa is being considered for the manager’s job with Tampa Bay. . . . Three players are scheduled for off-season surgery Gary DiSarcina (elbow), Dave Hollins (knee) and Jim Edmonds (both knees).
