The Orange County chapter of the American Red Cross is seeking nominations for its sixth annual Clara Barton Spectrum Awards.
The competition, which honors women in public service, is named for the woman who founded the Red Cross in 1881 after nursing soldiers on battlefields in the Civil War.
The organization will recognize eight Orange County women in humanitarian service, health care, education, environmental preservation, the arts, personal achievement, service by youth and service by a woman-owned business or group.
In addition, the Elizabeth Dole Glass Ceiling Award will go to a woman who has served her community while excelling in the corporate environment.
Nominations may be made by community organizations. The deadline is Sept. 28. The awards will be presented Oct. 29 at the Irvine Marriott.
