Ventura to Consider Firm for Library Project

VENTURA — The City Council today will consider a recommendation to hire a Sacramento-based architecture firm to design the renovation of the E.P. Foster Library.
If approved, Oshima & Yee Architects would be paid $142,500 to prepare construction plans, specifications and cost estimates for renovating the two-story, 31,000-square-foot facility at 651 E. Main St.
The recommendation was made by Jim Walker, the city’s community services director.
The library was built in 1959 and serves as the city’s main branch. Currently, only the first floor is used as library space while the top level houses offices and workrooms.
The $1.5-million renovation will include expanding the library’s public space to the second floor, upgrading structural, electrical and mechanical systems and improving access in compliance with a federal disabilities act.
Oshima & Yee were one of 10 firms that bid for the job and one of four interviewed. The city’s Library Advisory Commission has unanimously recommended approval of the firm.
