Geraldo Rivera must be more necessary than evil to NBC since CNBC airs “Rivera Live” and now “Upfront Tonight” twice daily (“Portrait of a Necessary Evil,” by Jane Hall, Aug. 23). The Times must agree, giving him the cover story and seven columns.
Rivera is tenacious and enduring, and perhaps more popular than NBC is willing to admit.

Brian Williams will be the top anchorman going into the next century. He is of the highest caliber, integrity, ability and tact in addressing all the news. His professionalism is above reproach--he radiates the image of what NBC, CNBC and MSNBC News is all about.
Geraldo has his place, but not as the top anchor of the next millennium.
