‘Reading Rainbow’ Contest for Writers, Illustrators

Do your offspring invent wacky stories or weirdly wonderful drawings? If they’re in grades K-3, tell them about “The Young Writers and Illustrators Contest,” presented by “Reading Rainbow,” the acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning PBS children’s show that sparks kids’ interest in books.

Grand prizes are IBM multimedia computers with printers; second-placers get Panasonic Omnivision VCRs. All winners will receive a Reading Rainbow Library set of tapes and books; their schools and local libraries will receive Reading Rainbow library sets.

Entries should include a story (50-200 words for grades K-1, 100-350 words for grades 2-3) and no less than five original illustrations related to the story.

The deadline for independent entries is March 28.
