USC Coach Henry Bibby, who was scheduled to speak at the Los Angeles Athletic Club’s annual luncheon for USC and UCLA basketball teams Tuesday, canceled an hour before the luncheon began.

Bibby has missed at least one previous such luncheon, held before one of the two meetings between the teams each season and open to the public. The athletic club’s executives complained to Athletic Director Mike Garrett, an LACC executive said.

No reason was given for Bibby’s absence.

Dave Miller, a USC assistant coach, filled in.
