Fund-Raising Vehicle of Rose Float Group Stolen

The Rose Float Assn. has been hit where it really hurts. Its main moneymaking machine has been stolen.
The group’s 15-foot trailer containing a popcorn maker, hot dog grill, coffee percolators and an ice cream freezer was stolen last week from Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center, where association members build the city’s annual Rose Parade entry.
The members use the trailer to sell food at community events, enabling them to raise about $95,000 to finance the float.
“We’re dumbfounded,” said Michael Artherton, who is in charge of replacing all the stolen goods. “We don’t know why anyone would want to steal it.”
The association is trying to replace its equipment as quickly as possible so it can continue its fund-raising activities.
