Pepperdine Stops Portland, Finishes Second in the WCC

Gerald Brown scored 19 points and Bryan Hill had 16 to lead Pepperdine to a 67-57 victory over Portland on Saturday night at Portland, Ore., in the teams’ finale to the West Coast Conference regular season.
The Waves (17-9, 9-5 in the WCC) finished second in the conference behind Gonzaga. Portland (14-12, 7-7) finished in a three-way tie for fourth.
Jelani Gardner scored 13 points for Pepperdine and Tommie Prince had 10.
Chivo Anderson, Troy Collins and freshman Eric Sandrin, who started for injured center Philip Dejworek, scored nine points apiece to lead Portland.
Portland was never in the game, making only five of 20 field goals in the first half, and quickly fell behind.
Pepperdine led, 36-21, at halftime and held the lead through the second half. The Waves’ biggest lead, 47-30, came at 13:04 of the second half on a layup from Hill.
