Israeli Affluence

Your two-part series (Feb. 12-13) on Israel’s new affluence was enlightening and I’m pleased they’ve achieved a new lifestyle.
Something is bothering me, though. Aren’t American taxpayers still supporting Israel to the tune of billions each year? It has been reported that Egypt and Israel are the largest recipients of our foreign aid. Wouldn’t you think that with this newfound success their government could figure out a way to stand alone by taxing these folks a bit more and eliminating our tax dollars?
