County Fire Department Takes Over City Units
- Share via
In a ceremony marking the takeover of the Covina Fire Department by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the city’s 40 firefighters Monday received their new badges from county Chief P. Michael Freeman.
After nearly a century of service, the Covina department will cease to exist today and all its stations and equipment will be transferred to the Los Angeles County Fire Protection District.
In July, the Covina City Council voted to disband its own department and become part of the county system to save $1.2 million annually.
