School District to Offer Forum on Bilingual Education Measure
- Share via
The Lennox school district is planning to hold a forum Tuesday to inform the community about Proposition 227, a June ballot initiative that would end most bilingual education programs.
The district has invited three speakers to talk about the history of bilingual education and the success of multi-language education programs. Speakers will also discuss the impact that Proposition 227 will have on the future of education in California if is passes.
The Lennox school board adopted a resolution last week to oppose the initiative. About 82% of the students in the district come from Spanish-speaking homes. District officials contend that the elimination of bilingual education would devastate the community.
The forum is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Lennox Middle School Cafeteria at 11033 Buford Ave.
