Pepperdine Surprises No. 2-Ranked UCLA Behind Borgersen, Rognon

Karoline Borgersen and Annabel Rognon accounted for three of 10th-ranked Pepperdine’s points in a 6-3 upset of No. 2-ranked UCLA (6-4) in a women’s tennis match Friday at Pepperdine (7-4).
Borgersen defeated Kelly Rudolph, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3 singles and Rognon defeated Brandy Freudenberg, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Borgersen and Rognon won at No. 2 doubles.
BASEBALL
Cal Lutheran 17, Claremont-Mudd 1--Jake Ganajian had four hits, including a home run, and teammate Anthony Olden had three hits, including a two-run home run, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Cal Lutheran (6-2, 6-1 in conference play).
Freshman Ryan Yoshiwara had three hits and Brian Malchow slugged a grand slam for the Kingsmen. Adam Springston (3-0) allowed five singles and struck out five over six innings.
SOFTBALL
CS Northridge 6, Massachusetts 1--Tara Glaister (2-2) allowed one hit and struck out 11 for the Matadors (6-3), who won their first two pool-play games in the Leadoff Classic at Columbus (Ga.) State.
Tara Glaister (2-2) allowed one hit and struck out 11.
Northridge also defeated Indiana, 5-0.
Pierce 10, Rio Hondo 2--Amber Gutierrez had four hits and Jenaye Brown had three for the Brahmas (2-2) in a nonconference game at Rio Hondo.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Ventura 56, Valley 54--Ventura’s Patrick Nygren won three events in a Western State Conference meet at Ventura (3-0, 3-0).
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Ventura 87, Valley 51--Marissa Roarty and Lori Turner each won three events for host Ventura (3-0, 3-0) in a WSC meet.
TRACK AND FIELD
Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships--Northridge’s Clinte Motley won the high jump with a 7 feet 1 inch effort at Montana State.
