Flood Control

I like trees. I like them on golf courses in the Sepulveda Basin. I like them in parks in the Sepulveda basin. I do not like them in Los Angeles flood-control channels.
They do not belong in an area designed to move water at high speed to prevent flooding.
I grew up in the Valley and never remember Balboa Boulevard being flooded so many times by the Los Angeles flood-control channel. The only thing I can attribute this to is overgrowth of trees and plants in the channels restricting the flow of water.
Why aren’t all of Sen. Tom Hayden’s naturalists spending time cleaning up the river after these storms?
