18 Hutu Rebels Killed, Army Says

Eighteen Hutu rebels were killed Thursday by government soldiers in the central Gitarama region, the army said. At least 146 rebels and eight soldiers have been killed in a week of fighting there, according to the army. The figures could not be independently confirmed. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pierre Celestin Rwigema said 5,000 suspects in the 1994 genocide of more than 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus would be brought to trial this year.
