Whitewater Figure McDougal Buried
James B. McDougal, the wily banker and political junkie who turned against President and Mrs. Clinton, was laid to rest, penniless and eulogized by the same Whitewater prosecutor who sent him to prison. About 100 people showed up for the service. Some knew McDougal only from his twice-a-day visits to one of the town’s local restaurants. His old barber came too. Neither of the Clintons came, though the president offered condolences when he heard of McDougal’s death Sunday. Susan McDougal, his former wife, also didn’t attend. She served 18 months for contempt for refusing to cooperate with the Whitewater independent counsel and is now serving a two-year sentence for bank fraud.
