Group Drops Effort to Oust 3 School Trustees

A citizens group seeking to recall three members of the city’s school board has abandoned its efforts after failing to gather enough signatures by a February deadline, members said.
In July, the 40-member group mailed formal notices to Westminster School District Trustees Sondra Rinker and Helena Rutkowski and then-President Michael J. Verrengia, notifying them of a pending recall effort.
The group failed to collect the 6,000 signatures needed to force a recall election, said Jeanne Salinas, spokeswoman for the citizens group. She did not know how many signatures were gathered.
The group began its recall effort after Verrengia, Rinker and Rutkowski decided to buy out the contract of former Supt. Gail Wickstrom in May 1997.
