Sheriff Sponsors Forum to Discuss Troubled Youth

THOUSAND OAKS — A community forum about troubled youth is scheduled here tonight.
The “Youth at Risk” forum is sponsored by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Featured speakers will include Chief Bob Brooks, who heads the department’s east county station. Brooks so far is the sole candidate running to replace retiring Sheriff Larry Carpenter.
Along with Brooks will be speakers from the department’s gang unit and counselors from the Conejo Valley Unified School District.
Such community forums began about four years ago when Thousand Oaks had a series of gang-related incidents, according to Brooks.
In January, a similar forum was held in Simi Valley, where the top concern was youth crime.
Tonight’s forum will begin at 7 at 2323 N. Moorpark Road. Anyone interested in attending the free event should call 494-8297 to reserve a seat.
