Credit Suisse Settles Holocaust Claim

Bank Credit Suisse agreed to settle the claim of a 71-year-old Holocaust survivor, a move her supporters said could clear the way for other ailing Jews to recover their ancestors’ long lost assets. The amount paid New York resident Estelle Sapir was reported at between $300,000 and $500,000. Sapir’s lawyer, Edward Fagan, said the settlement removes Sapir as lead plaintiff in a class action suit that involves as many as 40,000 Holocaust survivors and their descendants who are seeking to recover funds deposited by their families in Swiss banks before many died at the hands of the Nazis.
