A 35-year-old Oxnard man remained in stable condition Wednesday night after being shot once in the upper chest during an argument outside a motel, police said.
Mario Torres was shot by an unidentified man at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Marv-Inn Motel parking lot at 645 E. Port Hueneme Road, said Lt. Fernando Estrella.
Police have few clues, Estrella said. Motel guests said they heard Torres and the shooter shouting at each other. Neither man was staying at the motel, and it was unclear why they were arguing, Estrella said.
The suspect fled on foot, and police found Torres lying on his back behind an apartment complex next to the motel. It was unknown why Torres also fled. The gun has not been recovered.
Torres was being treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. Doctors have left the bullet inside him until further medical tests can be done.
