Mike Veeck Looking to Buy Twins

St. Paul Saint owner Mike Veeck, already part of an ownership group that wants to buy the Minnesota Twins, will meet with team officials to see if he can strike a deal on his own.
Veeck said he wants to know if he can buy a share of the team or all of it. He was to meet with Twins financial advisor Bob Starkey today.
Veeck’s late father, Bill Veeck, was one of baseball’s more colorful owners when he had the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians.
Twin owner Carl Pohlad has been negotiating a sale of the team to North Carolina businessman Don Beaver for months, but prospects for that deal suffered last week when two counties in North Carolina rejected a tax for a new stadium.

Marty Cordova returned to the Twins’ lineup after a stint on the 15-day disabled list because of a neck injury. After going six for 41 in the 10 games before his injury he was two for four with a double, an RBI and his first stolen base of the season. . . . Detroit activated Bip Roberts from the 15-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Kimera Bartee to triple-A Toledo. . . . Toronto outfielder Jose Cruz Jr. was scratched from the lineup minutes before the game because of an allergic reaction. His eyes swelled up and he received an injection by team doctors, although it was not known what caused the reaction.
