Contest Seeks Logo for Erosion Agency

A government agency charged with investigating and solving beach erosion in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties hopes a wave of artists will vie for $300 in prize money being offered to the winner of a logo contest.
Santa Barbara-based Beach Erosion Authority for Control Operations and Nourishment, also known as BEACON, will award the prize for artwork that best represents the agency, spokesman Kevin Ready said Wednesday.
Entries should consist of line art for the logo, a proposed letterhead format and a Web page format.
BEACON works to prevent beach erosion and damage from wave and storm activity, such as the recent battering by El Nino-fueled storms. The ideal logo will incorporate the concept of preserving the coastal areas of the central coast, Ready said.
Details can be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to BEACON, in care of the Office of County Counsel, 105 E. Anapamu, Room 201, Santa Barbara, 93101. Entries must be postmarked by June 30, and they will be judged by BEACON’s board of directors on July 10, Ready said.
Member agencies of BEACON include Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and the cities of Santa Barbara, Port Hueneme, Carpinteria, Oxnard and Ventura.
