Gore Calls Privacy of Records Basic Right

Vice President Al Gore announced a White House effort to help Americans protect the privacy of their medical records, credit reports and driver’s license information. Gore told graduates at New York University’s commencement that abuses of technology and the Internet had jeopardized the security of information. Gore called on Congress to restrict access to medical records and said President Clinton would act on his own if legislators did not pass a medical privacy law.
