UCLA opened its season with a 95-89 exhibition victory over the California All-Stars before 6,094 at Pauley Pavilion on Tuesday.
Freshman JaRon Rush scored 17 points in 25 minutes and Jerome Moiso made six of seven shots en route to 13 points and seven rebounds.
Three prominent Bruins sat out: Baron Davis, who is waiting to be cleared to return to full workouts after knee surgery; Rico Hines because of a sprained left knee and Dan Gadzuric because of tendinitis in both knees. Gadzuric may play Thursday, when UCLA plays host to the Taiwan national team at 7:30 p.m.
Andy Bostick had a game-high 27 points for the California All-Stars, a team that included former Bruins Mitchell Butler and Bob Myers.
