We Care of Los Alamitos, a community group that tries to ensure bright holidays for the city’s needy, is calling in the troops for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The group is collecting food or grocery store certificates for more than 200 families who live in the Los Alamitos Unified School District and the Cypress area. Food for Thanksgiving will be given out Saturday, and Christmas baskets will be distributed Dec. 19.
Elementary schools, churches and individuals are preparing to collect donations, We Care officials said. The group particularly is interested in bringing young people into the effort to encourage community service, said Marty Thompson, an official with the group.
