Couple Charged With Abusing 3-Year-Old

SAN FERNANDO — A North Hills couple was charged with child abuse and false imprisonment Tuesday after authorities said they beat the woman’s 3-year-old son and locked him in a bathroom in 100-degree heat.
Octavio Alberto Huicho, 23, and his wife, Elva Stella Huicho, 27, pleaded not guilty to five felony counts in connection with the alleged abuse, prosectors said. If convicted, the Huichos could each face a maximum of 24 years in prison.
Bail for the Huichos was set at $200,000 each. A bail-review hearing has been set for Friday.
The Huichos were arrested Aug. 22 at their apartment in North Hills after a neighbor reported that her son, Josue Gonzalez, was being mistreated.
