Endocare to Market Cancer Device in China

Endocare Inc., an Irvine medical equipment supplier, launched plans Thursday to market in China its Cryocare system, a cryosurgical technology to treat liver cancer.
Endocare has signed a distribution agreement through a partner in Hong Kong, Charlson International, to open training centers in Chinese cities and to sell the equipment, said Paul Mikus, the company’s president.
The system enables doctors to perform a surgical procedure that targets cancerous tissue within the liver and kills it by freezing it, without destroying healthy cells.
Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
The company estimates that China has more than 100 million chronic carriers of hepatitis B and that about 10% of them are likely to contract primary liver cancer.
