LOS ANGELES — Burning to hear the latest debate over the health department’s budget--but can’t find parking near the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration in downtown Los Angeles?
A proposal being considered by the Board of Supervisors next week would allow citizens to call in to listen to the board meeting on the telephone--in English or a Spanish translation.
“This is part of an overall strategy of trying to increase public access to board meetings,” said Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, who drew up the proposal that will be voted on next week.
Board meetings are broadcast on cable television Wednesday nights--more than 24 hours after they occur. Earlier this year, the county began providing Spanish translation during the broadcasts.
