Schools Chief Defends Expulsions

Decatur Schools Superintendent Kenneth Arndt took the witness stand in Urbana, Ill., and defended his district’s decision to expel six students involved in a fight at a football game, an action that led the Rev. Jesse Jackson to lead protests against the school. Hearings opened on a lawsuit filed by Jackson’s Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, which contends district officials violated the students’ due process rights.
