City staff will recommend to the council tonight that members approve a $16,000 contract with the Orange County Heart Center to assess the fitness of police officers and detect early health problems. The city has given the contract to the center for the last four years. Officers receive a family history review, blood pressure checks, blood tests and access to workshops on nutrition and stress reduction. Officers older than 40 are also given a treadmill-stress test, a body fat analysis and an exercise prescription if needed. The council meets at 6 p.m. at 6650 Beach Blvd.
