The city’s code enforcement officer has handled 30 code violation cases since the City Council decided in November to step up its enforcement efforts. Joe Guerrero, who was hired last summer, told the council last week that because of complaint forms sent out in the city newsletter recently, more residents have been reporting homes that have problems such as poor yard maintenance, illegal trash storage and illegal parking.
Of the 30 cases, 22 were from citizen complaints; the eight others were violations Guerrero found. Five of the cases have been settled with the owner complying, 15 are still pending and the rest were found not in violation or Guerrero is continuing to monitor them.
