Twelve players scored for Crespi High and the Celts routed Carpinteria, 77-55, in a Southern Section Division IV-AA boys’ quarterfinal playoff game Tuesday night at Notre Dame High.
Crespi (19-8), which plays Twentynine Palms in a semifinal Friday at a site to be determined, played fast break from beginning to end, changing pace only with an occasional three-point shot.
Marcin Jagoda, scoring mostly from inside, led Crespi with 16 points, including 10 in the third quarter when the Celts opened a 14-point lead.
Point guard Pat Dornan had 15 points and was among six Crespi players to make at least one three-point basket. Tim McDonough, Andrew Moore, Pat Casella, Mike Grimes and Michael Luderer, who made two, all connected from three-point range.
But penetration was the key, Dornan said.
“That’s something we do well,” Dornan said. “We’ve been having some chemistry problems lately, but we’ve worked it out. We’re finally in the flow.”
McDonough gave Crespi the lead with a three-point basket moments after the opening tipoff.
Casella’s three-pointer with 18 seconds to play in the second quarter gave the Celts a 35-24 halftime lead.
Dornan sank a three-pointer to end the third quarter and give Crespi a 56-40 lead.
Carpinteria (13-12), champion of the Tri-Valley League, was led by John Barbieri, who scored 20 points.
Tyler Matson had 15 points and Paul Hernandez had 10 for Carpinteria.
