Re “Late Fees on City’s Phone Bills Cost $400,000,” Jan. 7:
L.A. mayoral spokeswoman Noelia Rodriguez’s response to the $400,000 late payment charges for the 1998 phone bill was a bit weak. Does nobody in the administration look at his or her own personal phone bill, which clearly states a penalty will be assessed if the payment is 30 days late?
Although I normally am in Mayor Richard Riordan’s corner on bureaucratic waste, I think that the blame falls at his feet this time.
People screw up. Admit it. Try not to make it something that it is not. And for pete’s sake don’t blame it on others!
