Time to Get the Full Picture

For gallery-goers who have ever breezed past a painting or rushed through an exhibition, the L.A. Louver gallery has a program that will make you stop and take notice.
“One Hour / One Painting” is a six-part series that invites small groups of people to sit in front of a single painting for one full hour--a challenge to those who normally spend no more than 10 seconds in front of any given painting.
Verbal input will be minimal, but the events include some guided work with art critic Peter Clothier, along with meditative breathing to clear the mind.
“People are ready to slow down,” Clothier says. “We don’t look very much, let alone see. I hope the series helps people learn to do both.”
“One Hour / One Painting” begins tonight with “Echo Home” (1998) by Joe Goode. Other evenings will feature work by David Hockney, Peter Shelton and Ed Moses. The cost is $25 a person for one evening, or $100 for the series.
