A breakfast gathering of local officials, business owners and residents celebrated receiving a $15,000 grant Friday to improve crosswalks along Van Nuys Boulevard in Pacoima.
State Sen. Richard Alarcon accepted the check from Safeco Insurance Co. on behalf of the Pacoima Town Center Partners, said Maria Cano, a member of the organization’s executive committee.
The group plans to make the crosswalks at Van Nuys Boulevard intersections with Laurel Canyon Boulevard, San Fernando Road and Herrick Avenue more pedestrian-friendly by repairing and elevating them, Cano said.
“It’s adding to our plan of the whole beautification project along the Van Nuys strip,” Cano said. She added that the grant will become part of the Targeted Neighborhood Initiative funds Pacoima receives from the city.
