Driver Is Killed, Passenger Injured When Car Hits Pole

A 29-year-old motorist was killed Sunday and his passenger injured when their vehicle ran into a light pole in Fullerton, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver, Ismael Chavez of San Gabriel, suffered fatal injuries during the crash that took place about 9:30 a.m. His passenger, whose name was not released, suffered a fractured left arm.
The pair were traveling on the southbound Orange Freeway near Imperial Highway when their 1979 Datsun sharply veered right, skidded across traffic lanes and ran into the pole. No other cars were involved, and the cause of the accident is still being investigated, CHP officials said.
