Halama Has the Right Stuff for Mariners in 6-0 Victory

ARLINGTON, Texas — Left-hander John Halama gave up six hits in his first career shutout and Edgar Martinez hit a three-run homer to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 6-0 victory over the Texas Rangers Sunday night.
Halama (7-2) struck out four and walked two for his seventh consecutive win in front of 47,204, the largest ever at the Ballpark in Arlington, surpassing the old record of 46,934 set July 4, 1997.
Halama’s effort was the first complete game shutout by a Mariner pitcher since Jamie Moyer on Sept. 17, 1998.
Halama, who has not lost since an April 23 relief appearance against Tampa Bay, has won five in a row as a starter since being moved from the bullpen May 25.
Seattle scored four runs on five consecutive hits in the first inning off Texas starter Mike Morgan (9-6).
