Mary Murfitt, right, stars with Rhonda Coullet, left, Mary Ehlinger and Jackie Sanders in the touring musical comedy she wrote with Betsy Howie, “Cowgirls,” opening tonight in Fullerton. The story follows a classical music trio that’s inadvertently booked into a cowboy bar in Rexford, Kan., and how the three musicians scramble not only to save the gig, but the bar itself. Reviewing a 1996 San Diego production, a Times theater critic called the show a “feel-good, leave-your-brain-at-the-door” outing.
* Plummer Auditorium, 201 E. Chapman Ave., Fullerton. 8 tonight. $14-$35. Through July 25. (714) 526-3832.
