Clinton, GOP Fight Over Tax Cuts

President Clinton will veto GOP-backed legislation that would provide up to $800 billion in tax cuts, Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers said. Summers said Clinton would support only a $250-billion cut. The GOP alternative, Summers said, would threaten “the progress we’ve made toward paying down debt . . . .” The comments came during Summers’ first appearance on the Sunday talk shows.
