Led by Nikki McCray’s 19 points, the Washington Mystics overcame Brandy Reed’s scoring spurt to defeat the Minnesota Lynx, 60-55, before 10,098 Friday at Minneapolis.
Reed matched her career high with 28 points for Minnesota (10-7), including 16 in a row in the second half. Washington led, 41-37, with 9:29 left, when Reed’s run began. The score was tied, 55-55, with 52 seconds left, before the Mystics (6-13) got four of the last five points on free throws by McCray.
Houston 75, Charlotte 62--The Comets (15-4) trailed the Sting (8-10) by one point with 10:39 remaining before they went on a 17-4 run to win before 8,829 at Charlotte, N.C. Cynthia Cooper, who made three of six three-point shots, finished with 26 points for Houston.
Phoenix 73, Orlando 67--The Mercury (7-11) took a 15-point halftime lead and then held off the Miracle (8-10) before 12,226 at Phoenix. Kristi Harrower, starting in place of sidelined Michele Timms, led Phoenix with 16 points and five assists.
Detroit 69, Cleveland 60--Jennifer Azzi scored 20 points, her WNBA career high, including four three-point shots, to lead the Shock (10-8) over the host Rockers (5-15) in front of 8,106.
