The San Fernando Valley Interfaith Council’s Meals on Wheels program needs drivers and office help. Drivers volunteer during 2 1/2-hour shifts, delivering meals to homebound Valley residents. Call Kim Pixler, 718-6460, Ext. 3006.
Guides and student volunteers are needed by the Los Angeles Zoo. The zoo offers training programs for both groups on basic zoology. A 23-week course for adults begins Oct. 6 or 9; classes are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays or Saturdays. Completion of the adult program can count toward eight units of UCLA Extension credit. After the course, docents must volunteer 100 hours a year for two years.
Students, who must be in ninth, 10th or 11th grade, take a 19-week course starting Oct. 16; classes are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Upon completion of the course, students must volunteer 40 hours a year for two years.
Applications are available through the zoo’s Web site, www.lazoo.org, or volunteer office. For more information, call volunteer coordinator Susan Bolan at (323) 644-4763.
