HOLLYWOOD — A 15-year-old boy who was pulled unconscious from the swimming pool at Hollywood High remained in critical condition Thursday night.
The sophomore was spotted in the water “just after a regular P.E. swimming class,” said Hilda Ramirez of the Los Angeles Unified School District. When a lifeguard and the school custodian pulled him out, he had no pulse and was not breathing, authorities said.
Paramedics summoned to the high school on North Hilland Avenue at 12:40 p.m. continued to administer the cardiopulmonary resuscitation that school employees had started and then took the boy to Queen of Angels-Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.
He was later transferred to the intensive care unit at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
