New Leaders of Parliament Elected

Parliament elected a new speaker and two deputy speakers to fill the positions left empty after gunmen burst into the assembly’s chamber and killed eight people. The election marks a first step in bringing Armenia’s political life back to normal after last Wednesday’s shootings. Armen Khachataryan of the People’s Party was elected speaker. He succeeds Karen S. Demirchyan. The gunmen suspected of storming parliament are in jail, charged with murder.
