Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. named Allen R. Rowland chief executive and president of the supermarket chain operator, effective immediately. Rowland, 55, most recently was president and chief operating officer of Fred Meyer Inc.-owned Smith’s Food & Drug Centers.
* Service Corp. International, the largest U.S. funeral home operator, said it will take an unspecified fourth-quarter charge to cut costs and warned that an increase in interest expenses and other items could hurt profit in 2000. The company said it set up a committee to explore ways to pare expenses. Its shares fell 25 cents to close at $7.64 on the NYSE.
