We Have Seen the Future--It’s Downtown

Gobble gobble hey! The Viper Room’s beautiful Sean G offers us the following Thanksgiving quote: That which is timeless, can be found today. I hear you, funk soul brother. Right about now, history’s being made, as a new generation of young club cubs takes downtown, literally. Combining their good karmic forces to develop a quarter block at 4th and Spring streets are Cedd Moses and Johnny Camacho (C Bar), Marc Smith (Three Clubs/North/Vynyl) and real estate developer Tom Gilmore. The group is restoring a 1913 hotel called the El Dorado (how cool is that name?), creating two bars, two restaurants and a coffeehouse. Look for a splashy opening mid-2001. . . . Two big holiday hoo-hahs to consider: Club Make-Up’s Dec. 2 show at the El Rey Theatre featuring a performance by Hedwig and the Angry Inch, as well as giveaways and make-overs by those trendy beauticians Tony & Tina. And on New Year’s Eve, the El Rey will be decked to the glittery gills for a freaky styley carnival, featuring Cirque du Soleil contortionists. . . . And finally, a clubland glamour bird tells us New York magazine has dispatched a writer to explore the question: Has New York lost the night life war to L.A.? Lemme clear my throat for this one (ahem): Duh.
