SAN CLEMENTE

Military officials at Camp Pendleton said they will not restrict operations of two proposed helicopter landing strips near San Clemente, beyond limiting takeoffs and landings to 430 a day.
“There’s been some proposals [by city officials] that maybe we want to enter into a written agreement that would put limitations on the number of flights on the north end of the base,” Marine Corps spokesman Larry Rannals said Tuesday.
“We’ve told the city that we’re absolutely not going to enter into that type of agreement or try to limit our training activities, which have been taking place there for over 40 years,” he said.
One landing strip is scheduled to be finished by March; the second by 2003.
